The.former pulled up quite sound. / Volo was out, but-only trotting exercise rourfd the centre was apportioned him, as his injured feot is still causing J. Goodwin anxiety. This morning's arrivals* from the North Island comprised: Sweet Tipperary, American Beauty, Red Signal, Russet and the trotter King Capitalist. With Humbug a»d the Chokebore pair, Winter Wind and Moorfowl standing their ground in the G.J.C. Welcome Stakes, there is every prospect of tie race developing into a contest between North and South Island stables for two-year-old supremacy. Originally there were 12 horses engaged in the Stewards' Handicap at 6.7, but last night's payment left none of them standing their ground. Volo's acceptance for" the New Zealand Cup came as something of a surprise, as, owing to lameness, his preparation has been interfered with. As he claims no other first-day engagement, it is quite probable that the Husbandman gelding will take his place in the field. The* only withdrawals from the New Zealand Cup last evening were those of Lucid, Bonnie Heather, and Warstar. The first-named pair claim engagement in the Spring Plate, but AVarstnr does not claim any other first-day liability. Out of the 18 three-year-olds originally weighted for the New Zealand Cup, Starland is the only one to stand his ground after the declaration of final payments. Though there has been nothing in the Yaldhurit-trained gelding's form to suggest him as a winner, the prominent part played by the three-year-olds, Artilleryman and Richmond Main, in the Melbourne Cup should draw attention to Starland's prospects. The Chokebore stable is represented in every event on the first day of the C.J.C. meeting with the exception of the Linwood Handicap and the hurdle race. After working at Ellerslie on Monday, Blue and Black was very lame, while Pablo was in a bad way, as the result of injuries sustained while schooling. Neither is likely to sport silk at the A.R.C. meeting. Mr R. M. Carter, in whose colours British Arch is racing in Sydney, has purchased from Mr A. N. Gibbons a three-year-old full-sister to that horse, and the filly will be shipped to Australia at the first opportunity. It is understood that the price at which the daughter, of Marble Arch changed hands was 250 guineas. Partner, who looked to have excellent prospects in the big harness event

at the Otahuhu T.C. Meeting, has contracted a cold. "This has caused trainer A. Fleming to abandon his proposed trip to the fixture.. A recent addition to F. E, Jones's team at Timaru is the pacing gelding Takio, who is being got ready for the Gore Boxing Day Meeting. The Addington track was again out of commission this morning, and after such a soaking there is little chance of its being fit for fast work this week. As the rain has penetrated well into the subsoil, the going should be perfect for next week's racing, if favoured with two or three days' sunshine. Acceptances for the Otahuhu Trotting Club's Spring Meeting fall due tomorrow evening. TEMPLAE.
