GENERAL ELECTION.

LYTTELTON SEAT. In the Sumner Town Hall last evening, a meeting was held of the friends and supporters of Mr R. Macartney, the Reform candidate. Mr D. Bates presided. After Mr Macartney had addressed the meeting, the following committee was appointed to work in his interests:—Mesdames Fountain Barber, McMillan and A. E Loach, Miss Willett, Messrs A. C. Fryer, A. 0. Wilson, H. C. Jamieson, J. B. Laurenson, W. Bailey, J. Illingworth, Graham, C. Benjamin, E.-'T. Menlove, F. Rosie, Manning, Kissle, Thompson, W. J. McMillan, Stemmer, W. C. L. Bryan, F. C. Malpas, F. S. Maddison, D. Bates and C. Wright. The following to constitute the executive: Messrs D. Bates, A. C. Fryer, H. C. Jamieson, A. C. Wilson and J. BI Laurenson. Mr Hiram Hunter, Labour candidate for Christchurch East, will open his campaign at St. Saviour's Schoolroom, Queen Street, Sydenham, to-night. Mr T. Brindle, Labour Party organiser, will address a meeting in the Oddfellows' Hall, Lyttelton, to-night, at 8 o'clock, on "Labour's Opportunity." Mr H. T. Armstrong will address the electors of Christchurch North in the Druids' Hall, St. Albans, this evening, and in the Montreal Street Hall tomorrow evening.
