MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
TO-DAY'S CASES.
Mr S. E. McCarthy, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court this morning.
Drunkenness.—Two first offenders were convicted and fined 5/-, in defuult 24 hours' imprisonment, on charges of drunkenness. Refusing: to Quit.—Susan Christina Hobbs was charged with being drunk on November 1, and with procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. She was also charged with refusing to quit licensed premises, the Oxford Hotel, when requested to do so by the licensee, Robert John Paul. Defendant pleaded guiliy to all three charges, but said that she bad entered the hotel to recover her purse, which a man entering the hotel had stolen from her. Sub-Inspector Mullany stated that one conviction had been recorded against the defendant within six months. It was the first breach of the prohibition order. The Magistrate gave the defendant some sound advice, convicted her, and ordered her to come up for sentence when called upon. He warned her that if she appeared before the Court again she would be committed to Pakatoa. CIVIL CASES.
