SURF BATHING.
NORTH BEACH CLUB. There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the North Beach Surf Bathing and Life-Saving Club on Saturday evening. The vice-president, Air E. A. M. Leaver, was in the chair. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. A vote of £3 3/- was made to Mr G. S. Cowper for his services as secretary and treasurer during the greater part of last year. Mr Cowper returned the amount, to the club as a donation.
Twenty new members were elected, the membership now standing at 270. Mr A. R. Blank, the retiring captain, who has held that position since the inauguration of the. club, was unanimously elected an honorary life member. Several speakers referred to the whole-hearted devotion of Mr Blank to the work and progress of the club. The following officers were elected:— ■. Patron, Sir Joseph Ward; president, Mr F. Atkinson and A. It. Blank; delegate to Royal Life-Saving Society, Mr H. Truscott; hen. instructors, Messrs C. Atkinson, T. Hall and F. Suter; lion, surgeon, Dr Stanley Foster; lion, auditor, Mr J. A. B. Cookson; lion, solicitor, Mr H. S. J. Goodman; executive, Messrs A. Hutton, J. McCracken, H. Truscott, N. R. Johansen, C. Spicer, W. E. l.everett, H. S. Batchelor, C! B. Bailey, G. L. Bull, C. St. Marat; ladies' captain, Mrs McGillivray; ladies' hon. secretary, Mrs Truscott.
Saturday, November 15, was decided upon as opening day. Mr Benson spoke at length on beach patrol matters. Mr C. Atkinson asked that the executive seriously consider the matter of affiliation with the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association.
It was agreed to support the Surf Association in any request to the City, Council for llnancftil assistance.
It was announced that the Sir Joseph Ward Cup had come to hand.
