October 31. Sailed—Rimutaka, for Wellington. NOTES. The. Kamona Is at present loading a cargo of coal and timber at Greymouth for Lyttelton. The Kittawa, from Auckland, should reach Lyttelton to-day, and after completing the handling of her cargo will sail on Wednesday for Bluff, whence she proceeds to Greymouth. The Kakapo, after finishing the discharge of her Greymouth coal cargo, will sail from this port to-night for Pieton. where she will take in a full load of chaff for Onehunga. Later she will proceed to the West Coast. The Mokoia, which will tranship her Lyttelton cargo at Wellington, will leave the . latter port to-morrow direct for Dunedin. The Blackball Company's collier Ngatoro arrived at Lyttelton yesterday afternoon from Kaipara with a full load of timber. The Karu was due yesterday from Wanganul, but as she has not put in an appearance yet It is presumed that she has been obliged to seek shelter. The Kahu, which was run ashore at the Chatham Islands recently owing to a leak, and was later refloated, was working at Waltangi on Friday. From there she goes to Owenga, Whangaroa, and hack to Waltangi, thence to Wellington, where she is due on Thursday. The Wanaka is expected to reach Wellinglington to-morrow from Newcastle with a cargo of coal. The Breeze will leave Lyttelton to-day for Dunedin. After discharge at the southern port she will undergo overhaul at Port Chalmers. - The Storm, having been delayed in the north, is not expected to reach Lyttelton until the middle of the week. The Government steamer Hinemoa, on her round of the southern lighthouses, arrived at Lyttelton early yesterday morning. The vessel, which left Wellington on Friday morning, had to seek shelter from the strong northerly wind that evening at Port Underwood. She resumed her passage on the following morning. Although there was a heavy southerly wind she was able to land the lighthouse keeper and his wife at Port Campbell. There are half a dozen passengers on hoard who are making the trip to the Sounds and' Stetfart Island. The vessel, after taking in stores, will leave here-to-day. It will probably be a month before she returns to Wellington. The Huddart-Parker steamer Westralia S has been fixed to leave Melbourne about Wednesday for Wellington, and sails on the return trip via Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff about November 12. The Riverina, from Sydney, should reach Wellington about November 10, and will probably leave three days later for the New South Wales port. The intercolonial steamer Mocraki, which left Sydney at 5 p.m. on Thursday last, was due at Wellington tills morning. PERSONAL. Captain John Black, who was master of the steamer Port Kcmbla when she was gunk by a mine off Farewell Spit, Is in command of the Port Elliot. Mr C. M. Balrd has taken Mr G. E. Dickie's place as second engineer on the Pateena. Captain Johansen has resigned from tha position of master of the auxiliary schooner May Howard, and Captain Holm has been appointed in bis stead. OVERSEAS VESSELS. The Ellerman and Bucknoll steamer City Of Madras, from New York, via Auckland,

Is 'due at Wellington to-day to discharge 1000 of her 6000 tons of general cargo. She will sail later for Lyttelton and Dunedln. and -will put out the balance of her freight at Australia. Built In 1903 by Messrs Palmer and Co., Jarrow, she is a vessel of 4634 tons register. Recently she was released from war service, In which she piled to and from the East Indies to England. She left London on May 29 for the Cape ports, spending close on two months about the ports of the South African coast. On August 8 she left Cape Town for Boston and New York, coaling at St. Vincent. She arrived at Boston on September 5, leaving there in time to escape the total dislocation of the city by a strike which paralysed business for some days. She arrived in the metropolis on September 10, and remained there until September 23. She then sailed directly for Auckland, via Panama. The City of Madras is a trim vessel, and Is accredited with having done some smart passages. She is under the command of Captain W. Gray, with the following ofllcers:—Chief, Mr H. Calvert; second, Mr D. Craig; third, Mr H. Glynne; chief engineer, Mr J. Walker: second, Mr W. Middlcton; third, Mr D. Monnickendam; fourth, Mr R. Jennion; fifth, Mr J. The Shaw, Savill' and Albion steamer lonic arrived at \Vellin.<?ton from Auckland to-day, to continue discharge of Tier Home cargo, and will later come on to Lyttelton for a like purpose. Captain H. Canty. The R.M.S. Tofua, which arrived at Wellington on Saturday from San Francisco, via ports, is to sail at 3 p.m. on Saturday next oh the return trip. Her cargo totals 3158 tons, and includes 2158 cases bananas, 16 cases pineapples, 2429 cases tomatoes, 283 sacks coconuts, 19 tons cocoa, 25 tons cream of tartar, 275 tons canned fish, 1.1 tons canned fruit, 697 tons dried fruit, 15 tons cotton, 110 tons roofing material, 99 tons Californian fruit, 279 tons motors and material, 30 tons hardware, 213 tons machinery, 142 tons asphalt, 51 tons paint, 500 tons mail, 16 sacks seed, 91 tons onions, 23 tons plaster, and 11 tons glassware. The C. and D. liner Port Elliot is now loading frozen meat at Wellington for Home ports. She will leave for Gisborne to-morrow, and will return to Wellington on November 13 to complete her cargo. Three days later she will sail for' London, via Panama.

The Hororata is at present shipping Home cargo at Wellington, whence she sails on Thursday for London, via Panama. The Shaw, Savill steamer Karamea has been detained at Wanganul, and will probably not leave there until to-morrow for Wellington. November 7 is the date mentioned at present for her departure for London, via Panama. The Raranga is to proceed from Sydney to Newcastle, thence to New Zealand, to load for Home ports. The liner Argyllshire is expected to leave Port Chalmers to-day for Wellington, where she will load for England. .She has been ■ fixed to sail on November 22 for Liverpool, - via Panama. The R.M.S. Niagara is now timed to leave Auckland for Vancouver, via ports, on Wednesday. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Remuera arrived at Wellington yesterday from Auckland to continue discharge of her Home cargo. She is expected to arrive at Lyttelton on Sunday next. The Ajana left Wellington on Saturday evening for Melbourne. She will load for Home in Australia. The Northumberland, according to advice received by the New Zealand and African Company, left Liverpool on October 25 for New Zealand ports, via Bombay and Australia. \ The vessel should reach New < Zealand in December.
