BUILDINGS COMMITTEE. •

The Buildings Committee report stated that the Burwood School Committee, had applied, to the board to purchase nearly two acres as an addition to the school grounds at a cost of about £llO. It had been decided by the Buildings Committee that the land should be purchased on condition that the committee raised £4O on which a Government subsidy could be obtained. The Sumner School Committee asked that at least half of the desks in the new school should be single ones. It was decided that dual desks be supplied in the meantime and that if there is sufficient accommodation the necessary single desks be provided when available.

The Sydenham School Committee had written objecting to the design of the dual desks being supplied to the new portion of the school. It had been decided that the desks that were not of a correct size should be replaced and to inform the committee that the board would be pleased to receive from the master any suggestions regarding the construction of the desks. The architect reported that many school experts were in favour of the fixed tops to desks—tke type to which the Sydenham committee had objected—and the desks used throughout America were of this type. The report was adopted. . TRAINING COLLEGE.

The Normal School Committee reported that the principal of the training college had interviewed the Director of Education with the board's architect in regard to the plans for the new training college. The plans as modified at the instance of the Education Depar-tment were approved. The chairman of the committee had been deputed to call on the Minister of Education in AVellington to press the board's application for a grant for the new training college exclusive of equipment. It was further resolved that the board approach the High Commissioner and ask him to consult with Messrs S. Hurst Seager and Geo. Scott, now in England, in regard to the most up-to-date heating methods, especially electrical, for training colleges and large school buildings generally. The report was adopted. (Proceeding.)
