MR ELL CURIOUS. TIMBER ON THE ROADSIDES. [From Our Own Parliamentary Reporter.l WELLINGTON, September 5. Mr H. G. Ell is moving for a return showing:— (1) The cost of removing Ujc old parcris office tn Hereford Street, Christchurch, and the date when the buildings were removed. (2) The annual rent paid by the Postal Department for the premises now used for the purpose of a parcels ofllce. (3) The term of the lease. (4) The cost of putting down the foundations of the new parcels ofllce, and the date when the foundations were finished.

The same member intends to ask the Minister in charge of Forestry whether he will consider the advisability of utilising the south sides of roads running east to west for the planting of trees of value for firewood, building or fencing purposes, as there are thousands of miles of roads which could be so used without detriment to the road. Mr Ell especially mentioned the hundreds of miles of Canterbury roadsides, now merely waste land.
