A Palmerston North telegram states that Glen Pollock, a conscientious objector, was tried by court-martial for desertion and found guilty, and sentenced to two years' hard labour in Wellington Gaol. ! Association message states that an unusual occurrence, the first of Its kind in Wanganui, took place at the Supreme Court there this week, when a ' tales was called during the empanelling of the jury for the trial of the last criminal case of the session. The number of available juryman was very ■mall, and challenges made by counsel .and accused exhausted the list before the requisite jurymen were obtained. There were a number of bystanders in the court, and his Honour ordered the doors of the court-room to be closed. Five men were wanted for the jury, but only three were obtained in court, and the sheriff had to go abroad and summon others. Half a dozen were secured, and the jury was finally completed. .
