THE SOCIAL ROUND.

TV and Mrs Davenport went back to Coalgate yesterday. Mrs Kyneton-Parkes (England) is staying at Warwick House. Mr and Mrs T . D. Coleman (Amberley) are staving at the Clarendon. 'Mrs and' Miss Thomas. (A-shburton) are in town, and are slaying at Warner's. Mr and Mrs Daniels (Mansfield Avenue) are leaving to-night on a visit to Auckland. Dr and Mrs Aldred intend returning to Wellington to-night, "after a stay in Christehureh. Mr and Mrs M. Bethell went home to Pahau Pastures to-day, after a davs in town. Mr and Mrs 8. R. Turnlmll, who Tceently disposed of their property at Domett, have been touring the Dominion, and are now in Kaikoura, where they intend to settle.

On Saturday evening a-surprise party, comprising 40 residents of Heathcote Valley, journeyed to the residence of Mr and Mrs Foster. Bridle Path Road, to bid them farewell on the eve of their departure from the district. Mr Smith, on behalf of the " s.urprisers,'' presented Mr and Mrs Foster with a pair of pictures as a token of the esteem in which they are held. He mentioned the readiness to assist in local welfare mattters that had always characterised them, and eulogised their ninny good qualities. Mr Foster replied on behalf of his wife and himself. The remainder of the evening was spent in dancing, games, and an entertainment programme to which the Misses Thompson, Round, Messrs Warner, Halton, Goodman, Christian, Smith, Young and Round contributed. Refreshments were served during the evening.
