TROTTING FIXTURES. June 28—Poverty Bay T.C. Annual, turf Topics.

A start will he made with the Hawkc's Bay Jockey Club's meeting to-morrow, and although the fields, in the jumping events are rather on the small side, the presence of several prospective Grand National candidates should lend interest to the racing. Seven stand their ground iu the Hawkc's Hay Steeplechase, and it' Master Lupin and Bon Reve go to the post their showings should he instructive in view of later crosscountry races. Master Lupin can he depended on to put up a great race under his 12.6, but Bon Keve can hardly be ready to see out a three-mile journey with 12.0 in the saddle, l'oenian's recent form entitles him to consideration, but he is hardly in the same class as Master Lupin. Despite his recent failures, Polthogue has only to jump correctly to trouble the top weights. It is disappointing to find only a quintet standing their ground in the Hawkc's Bay Hurdles, especially as Thrace, Master Lupin and Sleight-of-Hand arc amongst the defections. Multivc and Movement have both been racing well of late, and they should have something to say in the decision. A very big field is sure to contest the Heretaunga Handicap, in which Gold Kip and Honeybee may race well.

Entries for the following events at the C.J.C. Grand National Meeting close tomorrow evening:—Grand National Steeplechase, Beaufort Steeplechase, Lincoln Steeplechase, Grand National Hurdle Race, Sydenham Hurdle Race and Winter Cup. The hurdler Guiding Way is again in commission at Ellerslie. At the Takapuna Spring Meeting in llllli the son of Fontenoy won lour hurdle races during the two days. Jockeys F. Meagher, J. K. Kaan and B. Caddy were all put out of action at Napier, and it will be some time before they can ride again. It would have been hard to And a fitter horse than Hydrus last week, writes "Glencoe," but in his only start at Napier he pulled up so sore- that his trainer could not run him on the second day of the meeting, and he is not likely to start at Hastings this week.

Recently a Wnnganui buyer was anxious to purchase Scaspritc, but at 800 guineas no business resulted. The Karaniu-bred Woodlark is to race over hurdles at Hastings this week in the hack events. The chestnut gelding has not been a success on the flat, but us he is reported to be a good juniper, he may make a useful horse over fences.

The Hawera owner, Mr John Casserley, who bred and raced the National winner Compass and many other horses, received a stroke of ill-fortune last week when his two-year-old, by Husbandman from Applause, dropped dead on the Hawera tracks. The youngster, says a Wellington writer, was trained by J. Brown, and had shown galloping ability. Mr W. 1.. Ruttledge, of tiisborue, has sold a rising two-year-old half-sister to Chortle for 300 guineas. The youngster, who is by imported Heather Mixture, has gone into a Hastings stable. At a meeting of the newly-elected committee of the Ashburtoii County Racing Club, Mr T. E. Upton was re-elected chairman for the 21st year in succession. Other olllcers were elected as follow: President, Mr J. C. N. Grigg; vice-president, Mr W. B. Denshire; honorary treasurer, Mr D. M. Montgomery; handicappers, Mr J. E. Henrys (gallops) and Mr H. Briukman (trotsl ; judge, Mr R. H. Old worth; starters, Mr R. E. Harley (gallops) and Mr H. Reynolds (trotsl; clerk of scales. Mr A. O. I'ilbrow; clerk of course, Mr P. L. Donald: honorary timekeepers, Messrs F. B. Robilliard and R. G. Shearman; honorary surgeon, l)r W. J. Mullin; honorary veterinary surgeon, Mr J. P.. Gerrigan, M.H.C.V.S. Some time ago the Canterbury Owners' and Breeders' Association decided to circularise all Canterbury trainers to ascertain their views on the systems of starting by seconds or yards. At a committee meeting held last evening it was announced that of the 71 replies received 32 were in favour of the seconds system, while 22 supported the yards system. The president (Mr B. ,1. Muuro) and secretary (Mr G. S. Simpson! were appointed the issociation's delegates t„ the Dominion conference to lie held in Wellington on July 11. The death is announced of Mr E. Short,

a well-known Identity in local light-harness racing circles.

At a committee meeting of the Canterbury Owners' and Breeders' Association, held last evcnioß, It -was decided to communicate with the Railway Department In connection with the transport of horses, particularly on slow trains, asking that there should he a more expeditious delivery and that there should not he so much shunting of horseboxes at the different stations. It was decided to forward the Perth (W.A.) association particulars of the rules and other required details. The annual reunion was fixed to be held in August. Those present at the last meeting of the New South Wales Trotting Club, says a Sydney writer, must have felt fully rewarded, from a trotting viewpoint, at any rate, at having seen in action the Belmont Stud Farm's black stallion, Bonnie Voyage, a beautiful actioned square trotter, who had to be rc-rcgistered in Sydney as Grand Voyage. And they probably saw him at very near his best, for not only did he win two unhopplcd events, but he reduced the course record in one by l}sec, and equalled it in the other. He is a five-year-old by First Voyage from Blonde Grattan (imp.). First Voyage (Bon Voyage, 2.8, froni Elsie Downs, by Boodle), though foaled in Australia, was sired in America, and has won some good races in Victoria. Like Bonnie Voyage, he Is a square trotter. Bonnie Voyage first attracted notice by taking the Victorian Futurity for two-year-olds in 1910.

It is estimated that the Victorian Government's revenue this season from bookmakers in the way of license fees and ticket tax will be about £87,000.

According to a Melbourne writer, Silent Way, who is a candidate for the (hand National Hurdle Race, is now located at Caulfield with H. McCalman's visiting team. Silent Way carries a lot of quality, and appears to be a good sort. The late Mr Herbert Power was one of the 19 original members of Lie Victoria Racing Club. Of these only Messrs W. G. Leonard, G. Ross Fenncr and R. Wright are now alive. Mr W. R. Kcmball has named his two recent yearling purchases. The brown colt by The Welkin from Landrose will race as Weldone, and the bay filly by Land of Song from Ransonf will be known as Miss Nanna. TEMPLAR.
