PEACE CELEBRATIONS.
a SCHEME OF DECORATION. Arrangements of a very extensive character are being made, in order that the Declaration of Peace may be fittingly celebrated in Christchureh, and the Public Works Department has iu hand a scheme for the decoration of Government buildings in the city on the occasion. The main decorations will be on the Post Office building in Cathedral Square. The two frontages will be outlined by coloured and plain electric lights, whilst transparencies depicting the King and Queen, the Prince of Wales, Lloyd George, Marshal Foch, Sir Douglas Haig, and other notabilities, will be prominent features of the decorations. Flags of the Allied nations will be flown from all flagstaffs. The Government Buildings in Worcester Street will be gaily decorated with electric lights. A colour scheme of exceptional brilliance will bo seen, and an'artistic effect' should be produced. The old Provincial Council Buildings will also be tastefully decorated. The river frontage will be bordered with coloured electric lights, and a very pretty effect should be obtained. Electric lamps, transparencies, and flags will also be in evidence on the Durham Street side. The Magistrate's Court and the Government Life Insurance building in Cathedral Square will also be joined in the scheme. In both cases the buildings will be bedecked with flags and transparencies. The Christchureh Gas Company will make a display in Worcester Street. No arrangements have yet been made for a display at the various stations on the railway line, though the Railway Department intends that the stations should be decorated.
