NEW COAL FIELD.

PROMISING PROSPECTS. Preta Annexation. GBEYMOUTH, May 3. Tor some time past boring, operations have been in progress on Nine Mile. The results far exceeded anticipations. An analysis of the coal shows the very best quality, superior to that obtained in the Liverpool Mine, and which, as steam coal, will prove equal to the best in New Zealand.

The area covered by the new field is very extensive. The ontcrops and boring show at least 13,000,000 tons of coal in sight—sufficient supplies for 20 years. The mine is three miles from Bnnanga station. The country is flat, and there are no engineering difficulties in the way of Tail way construction. The mine could be put in full working >order in 12 months.

At a large meeting at Bunanga last night the Mayor presided. Mr H. E. Holland, M.P., addressed the meeting, and a resolution was passed that, in vtew of the fact that Point Elizabeth Mine was practically worked but, and there was a serious shortage in the Dominjfcn supply, and famine prices, tho Government be urged to proceed with the development of the Nine Mile ! seam.

The resolution was forwarded to the acting-Prime Minister and the Minister of Mines.
