The staff of the Base Records office at Wellington met on Wednesday last to bid farewell to Major Norton Francis, C.M.G., who is giving up his position as Director of Base Records, in order to resume business pursuits in Christchurch. Major J. G. Roache, D.5.0., who succeeds Major Francis, congratulated him on the splendid organisation which he was able to hand over. He 1 expressed his appreciation of the Base Records staff, and he believed that the majority of returned soldiers would endorse this appreciation. Mr Mathieson, on behalf of the staff, thanked Major Francis for the consideration he had always shown. Major Francis, in reply, said he was proud to havo been associated for so long a period with the office. His own efforts would have been absolutely useless, if he had not been backed up by so many loyal workers.
