HOCKEY.

CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Canterbury Hockey Association Was held last evening, Mr "W. Simpson presiding. The chairman was appointed to represent the association at - a meeting to be con- , vencd by the Canterbury Progress League for the purpose of advancing sport in Canterbury. • A suggestion by the Sydenham Hockey Club that the association-should take steps to standardise all club's subscriptions and towards securing that all grounds should be controlled by the association—the expenses to be allotted among the clubs—was referred to a sub-committee for a report. It was decided'to forward an opinion to the New Zealand Hockey Association that schools' hockey is impracticable, and that an interprovincial competition be held for players under 20 years of age. A sub-committee was appointed to go into the question of schools' hockey. It was decided to forward a challenge for the New Zealand Hockey Shield. The following sub-committees were appointed : Competitions: Messrs Holland, Ballamy, and Crawford. Permit: Messrs Tbrop, Smith, and Morris. Emergency: Messrs Hollar!, Rogers, and Bellamy. The following oflieors were appointed:— Treasurer, Mr \V. C. Bishop; deputy-chair-man, Mr S. Holland; Judiciary Committee, Messrs Simpson, Bishop, and Bobb; register keeper, Mr S. Morris. A sub-committee was appointed to consider the question of holding a hockey tournament on June 3. A Dakota potato grown by Mr A. Boyd on his farm at Buapuna turned the scale at 21b Boz. A great snowstorm in England on Sunday endangered the crops, damaged' the orchards and dislocated the telegraph and telephone services.
