The Hon. R. Aloore was amongst the passengers from Wellington last night. The Hon. C. A. C. Hardy arrived in Christchurch this morning from Wellington. Mr E. S. Luttrell was amongst the passengers on the Mararoa from the north to-day. The Canterbury manager of Armour and Co., of Australasia, Mr W. I. Carney, arrived from America yesterday. The return from America of Mr R. B. Beals is expected to-day. A vote of sympathy with the family !of the late Fireman Gash, a member of the staff at the Sydenham fire station was passed at last evening's meeting of the Christchurch Fire Board. Mr J. Monson, of Clyde Road, Fendalton, has received cabled advice that his son, Trooper Andrew James Monson, was admitted to the 17th General Hospital, Alexandria, on November 24, suffering with a severe attack of dysentery. Two of Mr Monson's sons are still serving in France, and a fourth was invalided home from Gallipoli. i Mr Frank William Petre, son of the, late Hon. Henry William Petre, has died at St. Clair. Deceased, who was born in Wellington 71 years ago, was apprenticed to a naval architect and engaged in practice in London, which he left in 1572 to come to Otago. He later devoted himself to architecture, and in that capacity was connected with the j erection of the Christchurch Catholic Cathedral and other well-known build- ! ings. Deceased acted as Consular Agent for Italy for some years. The death occurred at Duucdin on Sunday, at the advanced age of 9'!, of Mrs Margaret; Cordon Burn, formerly principal of the Otago Girls' High School, and afterwards principal of the i Waitaki Girls' High School, Oainaru. j The late Mrs Burn was a daughter of Mr Alexander Huie, of Edinburgh, and a niece of the Rev. John Zeigler Huie, a prominent minister of the Presbyterian Church in Victoria in the early .lays. On the death of her father, she emigrated, with the rest of the family, to Victoria, arriving in IS;j2, when the gold fever was at its height. For some years Airs Burn ami two of her sisters were associated in teaching at Geelong,! Victoria, where she married the late Mr Andrew Burn. After his deatli she resumed teaching, and on the establishment of the Girls' High School in Duneuiii was offered the position of principal, which she held for many years. Although a strict disciplinarian, Mrs Burn was greatly esteemed by her; pupils, who will hear of her death with keen regret. She was a devoted mem- j her of the Presbyterian Church, and! one of her proudest recollections was her participation in. the Disruption of 1 .S-i::, to the extent of accompanying the procession of ministers who left the! (ieneral Assembly of the Presbyterian I Chiiivli in Edinburgh and marched to Tanfiehl Hall, at Canon Mills, where the first Assembly of the Free Church was constituted, with Dr. Chalmers as Moderator. Mrs Burn is survived Ivy her brother, Mr Edward Huie, of V.'i'i-' cannia, New South Wales, by her two scm;, Mr David Burn and Mr Edgr.r Huie Burn (both of whom are in the service of the Otago Education Board),! and by her daughter, Mrs R. S. Allan,! of Dunedin. Captain Haitly Burn, who was for some time on the staff of the Defence Department in Christchurch, is a grandson of the late Mrs Burn. An- j other was Lance-Corporal E. .). E. Park . and W. Parker were added to the committee. e The Soutli Island members of the New e Zealand Press Delegation arrived in Christchurch from the north yesterday. They were: Mr G. Fenwick, managing '" director of the "Otago Daily Times," • who went on to Duucdin, and Mr M. L. Reading, editor of the "Lyttelton l ' Times."
