J INCREASED CONSTRUCTION IN PAST SIX MONTHS.

(A. & IS : .Z.) • (Kee. Sept. 0, 9.23 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 8. Lord Pirrie, interviewed after a visit to the shipyards, said he was gratified at the general progress of the shipbuilding position. The shipping control had improved the service 22 per cent. since January, notwithstanding a deficit of 584,000 gross tons during the first seven months of the year between the new construction and the shipping losses. During the six months ending August, 36 per cent, more tonnage had been constructed, with an increase of only 8 per cent, more labour than in the preceding six months.
