. The weekly meeting of the Avonside Nursing Division was held on Thursday evening, when there was a good attendance. Mrs Rhodes, lady superintendent, was in charge, and members had good practice in bed-making, bandaging, and drill. Airs .1. R. Duncan (Riecarton) entertained a party of friends at a very enjoyable party on Thursday, in honour <if her son's birthday. The function took the form of a gift evening in connection with the Sailors' Christmas Gift Fend, ami a sum of ££ 10'/- resulted. Refreshments were served in the draw ing-room, the decorations being in rod, white, and blue. Games, competitions, and music passed the time quickly and merrilv.

Miss Coombes has kindly given the usof the Henrietta Tea Rooms as a dona tion to the club, and the Mrs! meetingwill be held there at 8 o'clock next Wednesday evening, when the girls will select their own president and other officers. This is the first time a club of this kind has been organised to sew for the sailors, and the Cashmere Ladies' Guild is to be congratulated on having such a useful auxiliary band to further their efforts on behalf of jollv Jack Tar. Dr Jessie Maddison, who has been in England for some IS mouths, doing war work, returned to Chri'stchuivh this morning. She intends resuming her practice in the Dominion.
