COPPER TRAIL.

TO COVER THE TRAM LINES. FOR TRENCH COMFORTS FUND. A meeting was held in the library of the City Council last evening to consider a proposal to lay a copper trail in aid of the Lady Liverpool Trench Comforts Fund. The Mayor (Mr H. Holland) presided over a meeting of about 25 ladies and gentlemen interested in the fund.

The Mayor said that Mr L. B. Hart had devised a scheme to lay a copper trail on the tramlines which should realise at least £SOOO for the fund. The money was urgently needed. Many laities of the committee had been working for two years and 11 months, and it was the duty of the public to help them.

Mr Hart said that tickets would be sold to the public representing pennies. Some tickets could be distinguished by special numbers, and the holders of these would receive a prize. He went on to explain further details of the scheme, which would include bringing the children into competition.

The scheme was warmly commended, and it was decided to adopt it. Those present were appointed a general committee, with power to add to its number. The Mayor was appointed chairman, Mr Hart deputy-chairman, Mr C. W. Hervey secretary, and Mr 11. R. Smith (town clerk) treasurer.

The following were apponted an Executive Committee, with power to add to its number: Messrs A. (.'. Maxwell, A. S, Clarkson, W. E. D. Bishop, J. A. Borthwiek, J. A. Black, Nat Woods, J. S. Hawkes, C. Throp, 1). Sykes, B. Falck, F. D. Sargent, R. McFarlane, J. F. Collins, and 11. R. Sellers. The executive met immediately afterwards to arrange details, and it was decided that the tramways areas should be allotted in sections as follow for the purpose of competition in the copper trail: (1) Opawa, St. Martin's, Sydenham, and Cashmere; (2) Coronation Street, Lincoln Road, and Ricearton; (.'{) Fendalton amPTapanui; (4) Cranford Street and Edgeware Road; (5) North and South New Brighton, Linwood, and Dallington; (G) Sumner and Woolston.

It was decided that each section should have tickets of distinctive colour. Sub-committee were appointed to ar range for publicity, finance, printing, visiting, and entertainments. The chairman said that the competition would begin as soon as the tickets were printed. The fixing of the period of the competition was left to a future meeting.
