OBITUARY.

CANON W. A. PASCOE. n ne of the best-known and ajost highly-respected Anglican elergyn.en in Canterbury, the Rev. Canon William j Augustus Paseoe, died this morning at 1 the residence of his second son, Mr G. jB. Paseoe, Clifton, Sumner. He was in his 71st year. 1 Canon Paseoe had been in fairly good health until quite recenti' Hw ,beeanie seriously ill about a fort--1 night ago, and since then, tip till i uay ior two ago, his condition remained serious. Slight hopes were then entertained for his recovery, but unfortunately these hopes were not fulfilled, and he passed away quietly. Heart trouble was his complaint. The late Canon Paseoe was bcrn in London, and was educated at St. Augustine's College. Canterbury, England. He came to New Zealand in 1870, and was ordained deacon in 1871, by the late Bishop Harper. In 1872 he was ordained priest. He was vicar of WaiinriTe from IS7I to Zx'o. awl vicar of Hokitika from 1*75 to 1577. In 1877-78 he was locum tenens at St. Luke's, Christehureh. Then he was appointed vicar of Prchbleton and Templeton. For the next 22 years he was vicar of Avonside, in which parish he lei a particularly busy life, and won esteem. Prom ls9D until 1912. when he retired, he was an honorary canon of Christchurch. For four years Canon Paseoe vras also organising secretary of the Church Mission Fund.
