LOCAL AND GENERAL.

Yesterday a boy aged 13 years was arrested by the police on a charge of indecent assault, and was brought before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court. Being a juvenile, he was remanded until Tuesday afternoon. It is believed that there are other charges pending. A Salvation Army officer named Jas. Macmorran, stationed at the Salvation Army Prison Gate Home at Addington, was loading some baits of goods on to a cart, at midday, when he fell from the vehicle, sustaining injuries to the head and face. He was removed to the Hospital for treatment. To some, abbreviations are bewildering. But here, as in everything, there is nothing like "having a shot." An Otago exchange (a daily, at that) has •come across mention of an officer of the Royal Field Artillery (E.F.A.). It stars him as serving, with the Royal Flying Artillery! What about reprisals now! The Registrar of Pensions, Mr T. P. Gilfedder, stales that this month's pensions will be payable on and after the 24th inst. The usual date of payment is 2.'ird of each month, hut this date in dune falls on Sunday. For the convenience of the public war pensions are paid at the Money Order office, G.P.O. Ghristchurch, and' Old Age and Widows' pensions at the Registrar's ollice, Government Buildings. (Commissioner W. P. Lascelles of the Y.M.G.A. will speak in the Choral Hall on Monday next, and will give an account of his work as a Commissioner. Among many other adventures that he met with was being on board a vessel that was torpedoed, and during the course of his address he gives a graphic description of the incident, and relates how the work of saving the lives of those on board is. carried out. ,

Three aged 20 reservists, D. 11. Donaldson, hardware assistant, 227 Edgeware Road; D. Hanna, compositor, c/o "Press" Office, Christchurch; and another who desires that his name be not published; a Second Division (Class D) reservist, W. Tipler, carrier, 2(i Talfourd Street; and a 19-years-old volunteer, who desires that his name be not published, have registered for enlistment at the Christchurch recruiting office.

The adjourned meeting in the bankrupt estate of James Stewart, dairyman, now a carrier in Papanui, which was to have been held to-day, was abandoned, as the debtor had paid his creditor £55 of the £GS owing to him. Mr Henry Kingston, for whom Mr J. K. Cuningham x appeared at the last meeting, was the only creditor claiming against the estate, and "lie has accepted the settlement made. At the meeting which was to have been held to-day Mr Cuningham proposed examining bankrupt's books, and also his wife, son-in-law, and daughter. Probates were granted as follow by Mr Justice Sim at Dunedin on Tuesday: George Wm. Thomas Hegan (Mr Twyneham), Patrick Morgan (Mr Mallcy), John Lilley (Mr Mallev), James McDonald (Mr K. S. Williams), Wm. Northey Lace (Air llelmorc), James Shand '(Air Johnston), Thomas Myhill (Mr Dougall). In re Thomas Moilett, deceased (Mr Paseoo), an order to dispense with observance of rules was made, and a motion for executor's commission was referred to the Registrar for report. Letters of administration were granted in the estates of the following deceased persons: Bertha Reid (Mr llelmorc) and Leslie George Kearney (Mr J. 11. Williams). A well-known Christchurch antimilitarist, Edward Reginald Williams, formerly a printer's machinist, but latterly a farm labourer, was arrested and sent to camp under eseart, last evening, for failing to parade for medical examination when ordered 1o do so. Some time ago Williams was called in a ballot for military service, but succeeded in an appeal on the ground that when he was so called up he was in gaol, serving a sentence for sedition —men undergoing imprisonment for a term of not less than a year are not reservists. Subsequently Williams was called in another ballot, and it was his refusal to obey an order arising from this fact that led to his compulsory journey northwards.
