ACCLIMATISATION.

MEETING OF COUNCIL. The Council of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society met last evening, Mr W. H. Tisdall presiding. Messrs G. Gerard, E. B. Rimmington, J. It. C. Bond, and K. Murchison wrote, accepting positions on the Deer Committee. A letter was received from the. New Zealand Acclimatisation Association, asking the Canterbury Association's views on the desirableness or otherwise of holding a conference during the next session of Parliament, in connection with presenting recommendations for the amendment of the Fisheries Act. —■ It was decided that the society did not favour the proposal. A letter was received from the Marine Department, enclosing copies of a Gazette notice providing that any acclimatisation society may, with the approval of the Minister of Marine, prohibit the use of torches, acetylene lamps, or artificial lights for fishing in rivers within its' district.—ft was decided to write for further information on the subject. Mr E. Hardcastle reported that last week 222 fish had been tagged. The average weight of these fish was 41b 2oz, and the average length 213 inches. Accounts amounting to £24 2/u were passed for payment. Messrs J. Fuller and J. Bryden were elected supernumerary members of the council. Mr P. J. Pe la Conr reported that there were now 752,000 ova in the hatchery.
