Lieutenant Canning was accuse-,! of criticising his commanding ollieer because he allowed ladies to pay unauthorised visits to Baron von Plesson and Counts Metternich and Nethenblad, whi) are interned at Wakefield. The evidence showed that Mrs Leverton Harris, wife of Ihe Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Blockade, secured a Home Ollice order to visit Baron von Plesson alone, without supervision, and took parcels with her which contained contraband goods. Lieutenant Canning was acquitted.
