The annual meeting of the Christchurch Retail Shop Assistants' Union was held on Tuesday evening. It was decided that the union should be represented at a conference of trade unions to be held in Wellington on June 5 to discuss the question of industrial conscription. It was also decided to affiliate with the Christchurch Labour Representation Committee- A resolution was passed congratulating the Waimate master drapers on the progressive spirit they had shown in deciding to close at 5..'50 p.m., ami regret was expressed that the master diapers of Christchurch had refused to meet the representatives of the union to discuss the same question.
