Cranston (San Francisco, who have been visiting the West Coast, arc now in Christchurch, and are staying at thfe Clarendon. When the" mail left England Dr Mary Blair, of Wellington, was in a R.A.M.C. hospital in the Balkans. She was formerly with the Scottish Women's Hospital in Saloniea. At a meeting of the council of the Mothers' Union yesterday it was unanimously decided to heartily support the motion of the C.E.M.S. drawing attention to ■objectionable picture posters and advertisements. Miss 11. Rennie, of ".May field,"

Doyleston, leaves to-day for the North Island' to spend the winter months with her brother, Mr George Eennie, of Taupiri, Waikato. Miss Agnes Eennie intends to spend next month at Sumner with Dr and Mrs Gosset. Mrs 11. J. Kaphael, together with Mrs R. W. Anderson and Mrs C. G. Dalgety, is having a stall, for the sale of homemade sweets and cakes, in the Square ot\ Prisoners of War Day. Very tempting wares will form the stock-in-trade of the stall, and the patrons will be thus enabled to be very kind to themselves and help our prisoners of war at the Bame time. The bright spot in the Square to-day Is the flower stall in aid of the Lady Liverpool Fund. A wealth of chrysanthemums, tawny and russet, golden and crimson, pink and snow-white and bronze, form a big part of the flower market. But there are, too, masses of daisies, white and yellow, late roses from the hills, fragrant purple heliotrope, and many another bit of garden sweetness. The ladies in charge, are also selling tickets for their art union, in which the handsome gold watch, pre-, sented by her Excellency the. Countess of Liverpool, is the principal prize.-. The marriage took place very quietly on Mondav morning, in St. Mark's Church, Wellington, of Miss Trixie ©rock, younger daughter of Mr.- .W. Brock, Chief Inspector of Schools, Canterbury, and Mrs Brock, to Mr Eeginald Greenwood, of Oriental Bay, Wellington. The Bev. Mr Askew, vicar of I St;. Mark's, performed the ceremony, only relatives •of the bride and bridegroom being present. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a cream gaberdine costume with a black hat, a knot of crimson carnations worn in the front of her coat adding ian effective touch of colour to her toilet. Miss Mildred Brock attended her sister as bridesmaid, and was dressed in a smokecoloured gaberdine coat and skirt, and rose-coloured hat. Mr L. Adams was the best man. After morning tea the bride and bridegroom left by motor for the 1 north. Miss Wilson represented Australia and Miss Thurston New Zealand at the I memorial service to nurses, who have : died on active service, at St. Paul's last week (says the "British Australasian" of April" 18). Over 5000 nurses were : present, and every sort of military nursing uniform filled the Cathedral with a picturesque and patriotic mixture of retl, white, and blue, with soberer greys and browns for a background. The Australian Army Nursing' Service dress of dark' grey, with touches of brown, is not 4o spectacular as some, but it is eminently fitted for active service, and 5s certainly smarter than the .fly-away garments of some of the fancy nursing services. The roll of honour included the' following names:—New Zealand Nursing Service: Brown, M., and Clarke, 1., drowned; Cook, E. M. E., accidental-

]y killed; Fox, C. A., drowned; Gilbert, A., Gorman, M., and Hildyard, N. M., drowned; Hawken, A. G., Isdell, IT. K., and Jamieson, M. E., drowned; Lind, M., Rattray, L. E., Rae, M. 11., and Rogers, M., drowned. One of the most successful and enjoyable dances this season was held under the auspices of the West Christchurch District High School Old Boys' and Old Girls' Association at the Caledonian Hall last evening. The hall was tastefully decorated with chrysanthemums and evergreen foliage, while the supper table embellishments were carried out in chrysanthemums. Music was supplied by Mr Reg. Woods, while Messrs I). C. Henderson and Baker played the extras. The chaperons included the Mayoress (Mrs H. Holland), Mrs C. D. Hardie, and Airs T. N. Wilson. The committee who had in hand all the arrangements and who all worked so energetically in making the function such a marked success were: Misses G. Bradley, Iris Hester, Wright, Messrs S. Yincent, Roy Penlington, and Clyde Shipyard. The hall was taxed to its utmost capacity, among those present being: Misses Finlayson, Marriott, Vallance, Munro, Dorman, Ellis, Dearsleyy Blakeway, McKay, Burns, Andrews, L. Perry, M. Grant, G. Brough, M. Kennedy, Macintosh (2), Hartle (2), Woodward, Wild, Byers, Steele, Spragge, Wrathall, and Cusack (2), Messrs H. Holland, W. Wiseman, D. O. Henderson, Standeven, Penlington (2), R.
