BRITISH ACTIVITY. (A. X.Z. & neuter) LONDON, May 28. Sir Douglas Haig's aviation report states:—Owing to low clouds and mist on May 2(>, little living was possible until the evening. Our aeroplanes dropped four tons of bombs in the neighbourhood of Armenticres and Fricourt. Wc brought down six enemy aeroplanes. No British machines are missing. Our aeroplanes dropped 20 heavy bombs on the Bcnsdorf railway station on May 27. Hursts were seen on railway sidings. Hostile scouts heavily attacked our bombers over their objective. One of our machines was seen to go down under control. All the others returned.

THE NAVAL BRANCH. (A. A X.Z. X Renin-) LONDON, Ma> T,. The Admiralty reports:—Between May 23 and May—2(j our naval airmen's operations were hindered by bad weather. Nevertheless, they bombed Marsakcrke and Zeebrugge, where bombs fell near the lock gates. They also dropped nearly three tons of bombs on the Bruges Docks. On the night of May 22, in home waters, numerous flights were carried out. Submarines were sighted and attacked, and enemy mines located. Allied aircraft successfully bombed the Austrian base at Cattaro, obtaining a direct hit: also barracks occupied by the submarine crews, where a fire started. BOMBING RAIDS. (A. &. N.Z.) ROME, May 27. In response to the Archbishop of Cologne's protests against aerial bombardments, the Pope has made renewed recommendations to the belligerents to abandon this method of warfare. THE HUN OUTRAGE. (A. & X.Z. & Rrutrr) LONDON, May 27. The Australians and New Zcalanders have fresh reason for steeling their hearts against the barbarous enemy, owing to the bombing of a base hospital in France on May 10. A considerable number of Australian and New Zealand wounded were among the hundreds under treatment in the hospital when il was bombed. Some were killed and others again! wounded. Several who were already in a low state owing to their wounds, died from shock.
