■ The ladies of the Women's National Reserve are entertaining the returned soldiers to afternoon tea at the Art Gallery after the Anzac Day parade to -morrow. Today's river report states that the Waimakariri North and South, the Rakaia, and the Opihi Rivers are clear, the " aitaki is iishable, and the Rangitata is dirty. A sitting of the First Canterbury Military Service Board will be held in Rangiora on Thursday, May 2, and another in Christchurch on the following day. Old boys of the Christchurch Boys' High School are invited to attend the memorial service to those old bovs who have fallen in the war. The serviee will be held to morrow evening in the big schoolroom.

Wholesale grocery merchants placed their views in reference to their dealings with the railways before the Bailway Commission of Inquiry to-day. They were represented by Messrs D. G. Ogilvie, L. M. The annual conferen-e of the AVoollen Millowners' Association was held today. A deputation from the Woollen Mill Employees' Union waited on tlie association to ask for an increase in the war bonus.
