VICTORIA LEAGUE.

' ANNUAL CONFERENCE. Tlio first annual conference of the tranches in New Zealand of the Victoria League was continued in the Provincial Council Chambers yesterday afternoon. Mrs Chilton (Christchurch) proposed that the branches should unite in presenting an aeroplane to the Imperial Forces, to be known as the New Zealand (Victoria League aeroplane. The cost would be about £ISOO. The motion was seconded by Mrs Napier (Auckland), ajid referred to a sub-committee for a report. It was decided that an interccssional committee should bo formed as a connecting link between the various branches. A proposal was put forward by Miss Holland (Auckland) that the kowhai should bo adopted as the national flower of Now Zealand, but after an interesting discussion the conference passed a motion expressing the opinion that the fern leaf should bo retained as the national emblem. Mrs Chatfield (Wellington) moved: That the New Zealand Victoria League should endeavour by means of lectures jjnd talks to housewives to spread information with regard to the cost of living and practical economics, in view of the fact that few women understood the reasons for necessary and just rises in prices. On the motion of the president the remit was altered, and a resolution was passed that in the opinion of this conference the recent increase in the cost of living necessitates, on Imperial grounds, the consideration of all the women of the Dominion.
