SPREYDON BOROUGH.

MEETING OF COUNCIL. The Sproydou Borough Council met last evening, there being present: The Mayor (Mr W. H. Wiusor), Crs E. O'Rourke, D. Williamson, G. H. Budd, A. E. Brewer, E. 11. Clarke, A. Manhiro, W. R. Gahagan, and J. P. Diack. Miss McDonald, a ratepayer of the borough, wrote protesting against the amount of rates levied on her property. —lt was decided to reply that Miss McDonald's property was rated in accordance with the unimproved value, and that the valuation was not controlled by the council but by the Government. It was decided to accept the tender of Scott Bros, £G per ton, for the old gas lampposts in the possession of the council. The City Council wrote asking the council to forward a cheque for £75, the amount of the council's quota towards the cost of the bridge over the Heatheote. —The letter was referred to the Finance Committee.

The city electrical engineer wrote asking the council to supply him with fortnightly or monthly information relating to the number of electric light consumers taken on in the borough, and their names and the extent of the load. —The letter was referred to the Electricity Committee. The Mayor was appointed a delegate to wait on the Minister of Public Works in reference to the completion of the Otira tunnel.

The British Distillate Company wrote offering the council tar at 1/- per gallon, or in truck lots at lid per gallon.— The matter was referred to the Works Committee.

The Mayor and Cr Manhire were appointed the council's delegates to the meeting to be held for the formation of a Canterbury Advancement League. The Finance Committee's statement showed the position of the various accounts to be as follows:—District fund account, debit, £619 3/2; pit account, credit, £22 7/10; interest account, credit, £3 3/10; electric light account, debit, £B4 0/11. The debit balance at the bank amounted to £619 3/4. Accounts to pass for payment amounted to £OO3 12/10. —The report was adopted.
