RICCARTON BOROUGH.
MEETING OF COUNCIL.
The Rieearton Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor (Mr J. Brown) presiding. There were also present: Crs W. Dalley, A. Hampton, H. Wise, T. J. Stokes, J. Munnings, A. E. Steere, and H. Gudsell. The Christchureh Tramways Board wrote, in regard to the watering of Rieearton Road on race days, suggesting that during very busy periods on race days it would be much more convenient for the council to water the road, as the water cart would be better than the sprinkler while the trafiic w-as heavy The beard stated that it could not be held responsible for the watering of the ioad on race days, but it was quite willing to co-operate with the council in an endeavour to mitigate the dust nuisance that occurred dining the heavy trafiic. —It was decided to agree to the board's suggestion. In respect to the decision to shut off the electric lights at midnight, Cr Wise asked if this had resulted in any saving to the council. lie considered that the borough lights should be burning from sunset to sunrise, and asked that a report on the matter of the cost of the lights be prepared. Cr Hampton said it was not the intention of the Lighting Committee to switch off the lights in the winter before sunrise.
Accounts totalling £75 5/11 were passed for payment.
