TECHNICAL COLLEGE.
BOARD OF GOVERNORS. The Board of Governors of the Technical College met last evening, Mr G. Scott presiding. The Agricultural Committee reported that the shearing class had been maintained at nearly full strength, and would continue until Xovcmber 3; The report also dealt with the board's policy in the way of agriculture, which included the provision of information and expert advice for farmers. —The report was adopted. The Agricultural Sub-committee reported that as none of the land under cultivation seemed sufficiently clean for lucerne experiments, that these be postponed for the present season.—The report was adopted. The Finance' Committee's report, which was adopted, showed that the treasurer's statement disclosed a balance at the bank of £B5l 11/2. The committee had passed for payment accounts amounting to £lB5 12/3, and recommended for payment accounts amounting to £2B IS/5. The report further stated that with reference to the proposed extensions in the granting of free education referred to it by the board, the committee had resolved to ask the Finance Committee of the City Council to receive a deputation consisting of the board's Finance Committee, with regard to the continuance of the annual grant of the City Council. The chairman's report referred to the matter of an apprentice's time at the Technical College and its relation to .his term of apprenticeship, and also to the Education Bill presented in the English Parliament by Mr Fisher in August last. —The report was adopted. The director in his report regretted to record the loss at the front of four day school old boys—G. R. Allard, Arthur J. Bowden, Harold W. Dawson, and Thomas 11. Dixon—while six evening school boys had also been killed. Arrangements had been concluded with the Waltham School Committee for the use of the Waltham swimming bath.—The report was adopted.
