The weather was admirable for the opening of the Christchurch Bowling Centre's inter-club rinks competition to-day, but the greens showed the effects of the heavy soaking they received during last night's downpour. There was a large attendance of members, and representatives were present from all the city clubs and ' from Rangiora and Kaiapoi. Mr C. H. Agar welcomed the visitors, and in declaring the season open wished the club every success. The Lyttelton Marine Band play ed selections during the afternoon, and the ladies dispensed afternoon tea. A number of friendly games were played, the green proving to be in capital order. FRIENDLY GAMES. A friendly match was played between ' Opawa and Edgeware, two rinks playing on each green. The results were (Edgeware skips being mentioned first in each case):— On Edgeware green.—G. Lucas 24, Jacques 22; Gagliardi 21. C. Lucas 19. On Opawa green.—Taylor 10, Best 24; Head 14, Clerk 22. Totals, Edgeware 69; Opawa 87. Two rinks from Sydenham played a 1 friendly match with United to-day, the United rinks winning in each case.
