Wanganui Track Gossip

Special to The Sun If Client wins the New Zealand Cup on Monday a lot of coin will be won by Wanganui punters. The latest accounts to hand from Riccarton report the son of Elevation as being in great heart, and it is said that his connections are very confident. * * *

* f T W. Rayner left for Auckland on Monday with Marton. The Malachi gelding was looking in good fettle when he left here, and should run well in his engagements, especially the cross-country events. He will be ridden bv E. Copestakc. ♦ ♦ +

T -r t A. Hall was dissatisfied with Mou-j Ill's showing at Waverley, following j on his disappointing display at Mas-1 terton, and has sold the son of Boniform for £SO. The gelding can jump all right and has pace enough to win races, but he can seldom be caught in the humour to gallop in his best form. His new owner might have better luck with him. He is engaged in the Hack Hurdles at Ashhurst. + * *

Starengo looks all the better for his race at Waverley, and is moving in pleasing style on the tracks. H. Rayner intends taking the Starengo gelding to Ashhurst if he goes on all rigid.

+ + + C. Gordon has turned both Union Jack and Waioture out, and they will not be taken up again until the autumn.

+ +- * Tht remainder of Gordon's horses! are suffering from colds, but theyj should soon be in steady work again. J + * +

Cliei t made his first appearance when a three-year-old, at which age he scored four wins, a second and a third. As a four-year-old he also won four races, including the Marton and Wanganui Cups, and scored a second and a third, and was three times unplaced. This season as a five-year-old he has a win and an unplaced to his credit.

+ + + Moutoa Queen's running at Trentham was not up to expectations, but if she is in the humour on Monday ahe will probablv take a lot of beating in the Stewards'. She can cut otrt six furlongs as fast as anything engaged in that event, but she is not too reliable at this season of the year. * * *

w w w Signorella is making steady improvement at Bulls under J. Coyle's charge, and the four-year-old son of Signor—Crueinella should be worth watching for future events. He is engaged at Ashhurst in the Hack Welter of sevrti furlongs, a distance which should suit him. * * *

» » <r Turangapito has been nominated for the Flying and Manawatu Gorge Hack events at the Ashhiirst meeting, and if he starts a better idea of his capabilities should be

\\.a.>u.a;\l i, rvoveniDer 1. provided than was afforded at Waverley, as there is a better class of horses engaged. It will be interesting to see how the Prudent King gelding shapes with Nobleman if the pair meet in the Gorge Hack, as Nobleman is a cut above the ordinary. a. a. j»

V T T On Toaterc's running in the Cup at Waverley he is likely to be hard to beat in the Avondalc Cup, in which he has 9.4. .Analogue 7.13 is expected to make a better showing than he did at Waverley. * * *

T T T Combustion is doing good work at Marlon, and will be taken north for the Auckland meeting by G. Morris. Since running second to Colorado j at Masterton, the gelding has, it is believed, made some improvement, and he might pick up a stake in the North.

* * * Coral King, a gelding by King Rufus—Coralie, trained by J. H. Howe, at Marton Junction, is beginning to move in an attractive style, and it is expected that he will run well at Ashhurst.

* * * A four-year-old gelding by Zim-j merman out of Orchestra, trained by P. Johnson, is said to have benefited considerably as a result of his run in the Maiden at Waverley, for which he was a quiet tip, but did not show up prominently. He is a nice-looking sort.

+ * * The New Year meeting of the Marlon Jockey Club will be limited; to one day, January 1. An excellent programme of eight events has been drawn up, including the Marton Cup (open) of 500 sovs, Railway Handicap (open) of 300 sovs, and the Stewards' Handicap (open), of 225 sovs, will help to make up a bill of fare that should draw big fields and provide a splendid day's sport.

* + * From all accounts Gang Awa' is rapidly coming back to form, and he is likely to show up well at Riccarton in his engagements. If he starts .in the Riccarton Welter he will take a power of beating, as he can cut out a very fast mile under welter weights. * + ♦

Rude, who is in the Spring Plate at 7.7, has not raced since winning at Marton, when he won the Trinl very comfortahly, carrying 7.11. He will have a stronger field to meet at Riccarton, but he is a good sort, and should pick up a race at the meeting. Ho is a three-year-old gelding by Cyrus out of Cheeky, and was purchased as a yearling in Sydney by Mr W. Duncan, when he secured Arrowfield and Acre. * * *

Acre is expected to give evidence of further improvement at Riccarton. It is in his favour that he is quick out of the barrier, and on his form at Trentham he should be handy in whatever events he starts in at the C.J.C. meeting.
