THE CALL TO SERVICE.

J SECOND DIVISION MEN. j ARRANGEMENTS FOR GOING TO CAMP. Instructions issued by the DirecI tor of Recruiting state that men of Classes A (without children) and B (with one child) of the Second Division of the reserve may be accepted as voluntary recruits, with the privilege of enlisiting for the purpose of proceeding to camp in accordance with a table of dates designed to give each such recruit at least 12 weeks before going into cam)). The policy of the department is that a Second Division reservist (both the voluntary recruit and the balloted man) is to have at least 12 clear weeks in which to arrange his private affairs, between the date of his medical examination and the date of his concentration for the purpose of proceeding to cam]). Volunteers attested and medically examined, or balloted men examined, between the dales (both inclusive) set out in the first column below will be ordered to concentrate for the purpose of proceeding to camp with drafts which will arrive in camp between the dales set out in the second column. Drafts Medical Exam. arrive in Camp. Oct. 18 tn Dec. 12, 1917 March sto 9,1918 Dec. 10, 1!»17, to Jan. 5, 1!I18 April 2 to G .(an. 7 to Feb. 2 April 30 to May 4 Feb. Men who are called up under section 31 of the Military Service Act—which provides for the calling-up of men who have failed to enrol—will not receive any leave but will be sent direct into camp, either for foreign service or home service, according to their medical classification. It is pointed out that group commanders have no power of granting extension of leave to any men. All applications for extension of leave must be referred to the Director of Recruiting Every recruit on attestation must surrender his certificate of enrolment to the district attesting officer. Another regulation states that recruits must take with them any medical certificates that they desire to present to a medical board. Failure to provide these certificates before examination will be regarded as a ground for refusing re-examination. The dental examination of all recruits, whether volunteers or balloted men, is now being carried out in camp. The denial officers who have been attached to district medical boards have ceased duty. THE NOVEMBER DRAFT. Some of the men who were attested for the 3(Jlh Reinforcement draft, originally scheduled to go into camp on November 12, have the impression that because the draft has been renumbered, and the January one becomes No. 3(>, they do not have to go into camp until January. That idea is quite erroneous. Men under orders to go into camp this month have to go then, even if their draft is now No. 35a instead of Ne. 30. It is the date on which they are ordered to concentrate that matters, and not any number which happens for departmental purposes to be affixed to their draft. The January draft becomes the 3Cth because there will be no draft in December apart from that for the special CI training camp. With the exception of men proceeding to Awapuni, the November draft of "A" men will concentrate at Trentham, where arrangements will be made to select the men required for the various branches of the service. CI AND C2 MEN. The CI draft for this month will proceed to cam]) on November 19, a day earlier than that for which the men have been notified. The Special C2 Re-examination Board will commence duly in Christchurch at !) a.m. next Monday, at King Edward Barracks, and will continue there until November \\, when it will proceed to Rangiora. An ordinary district medic board will also be available in £hristchurch from 9.30 a.m. on TiVsday, Thursday, and Saturday of next week. ENLISTMENTS IN CHRISTCHURCH.
