NAVY DAY.
A GOOD COLLECTION. Collectors were busy in the streets of ('hristchurch all day yesterday, when tho "Navy Day" appeal was made in pM of Lord Bcvcsford 's fund to provide comforts for the men of the Grand Fleet, for naval hospitals, anil the hospital ships, for R.N. prisoners of war in enemy countries, and to help the dependents of men of the Navy wlm have been lost or incapacitated. About 200 ladies participated in the collecting, while in the Square there were a number of stalls, at. which a miscellany of goods was sold.' The competitions, which were conducted in connection with the appeal, were won by the following: —Sailor boy doll, Miss Cosgrovc; teaspoons, 8. P. Nicholas; cushion, Miss Deau; pipe-rack, IT. .Schwartz; raffia bowl, Mrs H. 11. Sc-c----relan; tablecloth, F. G. Dodgson; motor cushion, Mrs Newel]; tea-set, Misses llelmsley and Ryan; handbag, Mrs Allison; half-ton of coal, E. Diamond; half ton of coal, F. Newton; half-ton of coal, ('. S. Forbes; workstand, Miss McGee; easy chair, .Tames Knight; cake, Mr llolford; cake, A. .1. .Tones, turkey. J. Anderson; sweets, Miss Morris. Prizes can be obtained at the Navy League office, IJ9 Worcester Street. The total amount realised for the fund was £7J!o 17/0. The details were:
