Mr C. K. Cross was to-day nominated for the Wairarapa riding of the Waimairi County Council. The Hon. J. T. Paul, M.L.0., arrived from the north this morning, and went south by the express at midday. Mr .lolin Farrell, of the managerial staff of .1. C. Williamson, Ltd., who managed Miss Ada Reeve's recent tour in New Zealand, was presented by the artist with a gold autographed watch, as a souvenir of the tour. Mrs M. E. E. Nelson, of 13 Clothier Street, Linwood, has received advice that her husband had been admitted to hospital in Boulogne on October 21, suffering from severe gunshot wounds. Private Nelson took part in Captain Scott "s Antarctic expedition in 1903-4, and in Sir Ernest Shackleton's in 190.H, for which he was granted a Service Medal. He left New Zealand with the 22nd Reinforcement. Private A. C. Graham (Canterbury Infantry), who has been awarded the Military Medal, is better known as "Alex." Graham, the South V.'estland mountain guide, and the youngest brother of Mr Peter Graham, head guide at the Hermitage, lie left as a member of the Ambulance Corps. 22nd Reinforcement, but, writing from France on August 22. he said lie expected to be transferred to the infantry, and would probably start as a stretcher-bearer. A recent cable message mentioned that "a former guide at Mount Cook was among the bearers, whose courage and endurance saved many lives," and it is evident that this refers to Private Graham. Private James R. Hanna (killed) was (he eh lest son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Hanna, 126 Fitzgerald Avenue. He was 20 years of age, and was born at Belfast, Ireland, arriving in the Dominion with his parents about 10 years ago. He was educated at the Sydenham School. Before he enlisted he was employed by Messrs Boon and Co. as an apprentice, to the eoachbuilding and motor car body-making. He was an enthusiastic member of the Sydenham Swimming Club, and a winner of the Putman Cup, and also held a certificate from the Royal Life Saving Society. He also played hockey for the Star Club. He left New Zealand as a corporal in the 13th Reinforcement, but relinquished his stripes when in France.
