ST. JOHN AMBULANCE.

WORK OF THE YEAR. The St. Jolin Ambulance Association held its thirty-second annual meeting last night. Mr A. E. G. Rhodes presided. The annual report which was presented showed that during the year 41 classes had been formed. The number of those who attended courses of four lectures, including members of the Brigade, was 1007. i Eight hundred and thirty-four were entitled to I certificates. Of this number 07 were entitled to the medallion and 81 to the label. The number of ambulance calls was 541. During the year an improved ambulance service became necessary, and they had to thank the committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club, Metropolitan Trotting Club, and Canterbury Park Trotting Club for having provided sufficient money to purchase the first motor ambulance. Reference was made to the Red Cross activities of the Br'gade. The Brigade report stated that members had ra'sed bv collections and donations the sum of £:if)Br>" ir>/:i; it had made also 20 178 articles. The divisions in Christchurch subdistrict had raised £250 towards the second motor ambulance. The chairman referred to the loss sustained by the deaths of Dr Inglis and Private W. R. L. Esselboru. The number of stui dents bad not been maintained, but a better percentage bad gained certificates and medallions. , The Mayor, in eulogising Ihe work of the association, said that of all the awards for valour the stretcher-bearers came first. bishop Brodie said that the work being done was a sacred work, but without skill sympathy was useless, and that was where tlic association stepped in. He had seen the great value of the association in a mining community, and it had been coupled also with the Red Cross work. He intended to further its interests ill every way and become an active member. Mr W. McKinney also spoke of the good work done in the mining districts. After the awards gained during the year had been presented by Mrs Rhodes, officers were elected as follow: —New Zealand president, the Earl of Liverpool; vice-presi-dents, the Mayor, Colonel R. 11. Rhodes, Bishop Julius. Bishop Brodie, Dr Erwin, and Lieutenant-Colonel W. Thomas; General Committee, Mesdames H. H. Smith and Watkins, Miss Sprosen, Dr Rorrie, Dr M. G. Louisson, Dr .1. 11. Thomas, LieutenantColonel Creswcll, and Messrs A. E. G. Rhodes, J. A. Flcsher, 11. M. Reeves, H. Thomas, H. J. Hoddinott, P. G. Riches, \V. W. McKinney, and J. Ronaldson.
