THE SOCIAL ROUND.
Mrs J. R. Cnningham and family returned to Christchurch yesterday, after visiting relatives in Victoria. Mrs J. J. Dobbs (Christchurch) is Tisiting her sister, Mrs Hodgson, Taumarnnui. Mr and Mrs R. A. Home returned to Christchurch this morning, after a tour in the north. Mrs Maurice Denniston is visiting Lady Denniston, Cashmere Hills. Mrs C. Russell (Wellington) is visiting Christehurch. Mr and Mrs J. S. Milne (Auckland), are visting Christchurch. Mr and Mrs C. J. Bennett, Mr and Mrs C. D. Bennett, anil Miss Foster, arrived in a party this morning, and are staying at the Clarendon. Mr and Mrs J. D. McCracken, of Haylands, North Canterbury, are in town. Mr and Mrs C. H. Ensor (Whiterock), Miss Eileen Twomey (Temuka), Mr and Mrs Giles and the Misses Giles (Timaru), are amongst the guests at the United Service. Mrs G. L. Rutherford (Macdonald Downs) is staying at Warner's. Mr and Mrs F. A. Raymond (Timaru) are in town. Miss Morkane has returned to Christehurch, after a trip north. Miss A. J. Menzies, who has been recuperating at New Brighton since her recent illness, resumed her duties as headmistress at the East Christchurch Infants' School to-day. A Cake and Apron Fair is being held this afternoon and evening in the Sydenham Methodist Schoolroom, and was opened by Mrs T. E. Taylor. The usual stalls for flowers, produce, fancy goods, etc., were arranged, and proceeds will be devoted to Church funds. Mrs Shield was the guest of honour at the farewell bridge party given yesterday afternoon by Mrs T. J. Mcßride, St. Albans Street. Amongst the players were Mrs Morton Anderson, Mrs McOvycr.. Mrs F. Graham, Mrs Croxtou, Mrs Kohn, and Mrs C. Louisson. There have* been several changes on the staff at Walton-on-Thames recently. Sister McNie has been transferred to Codford as matron, and Staff Nurses Goldsmith and Take have gone to New Zealand on transport duty. Sister Mitchell, who was on thn staff of the New Zealand Stationary Hospital in France, is now at Walton, and Mrs Marshall McDonald, of Dunedin, has also taken up. duty there. The Mayor opened the Spring Fair at the Richmond Methodist Church, Stanmore Road, at 2.30 to-day, and it will be continued this evening, to-morrow afternoon, and to-morrow evening. Proceeds will be devoted to the debt extinction fund. Smallholders are Mesdames Hadfield, Petrie, Lennie, Straw, Ramsay, Miss Petrie, and others. A musical programme will be given each evening.
