ST. JOHN'S, LYTTELTON. . NEW PASTOR INDUCTED. The induction of the Rev. W. T. Todd, late of Rakaia, to the pastoral charge of St. John's Presbyterian Church, Lyttelton, took place last Thursday afternoon. The interim Moderator of St. John's, the Rev. John Paterson, presided over a large congregation. The Rev. J. Crawford Paterson, of Lincoln, preached the sermon, and then the Rev. John Paterson put the questions to the incoming minister, which, being satisfactorily answered, the right hand of fellow-, ship was extended to him in the names of the Christchurch Presbytery and of the congregation. Following this, the Rev. John Paterson addressed the new minister regarding the responsibilities of his oflice, and the Rev. F. Rule, the Moderator of the Christchurch Presbytery, addressed the congregation on their obligations towards their pastor.

At the conclusion of the service a welcome tea, followed by a public meeting, was held in the schoolroom. The Rev. John Paterson took the chair for the former part of the meeting, and on the platform with him were the Rev. F. Rule, the Rev. J. Crawford Paterson, Messrs Robt. Hatchwell, and J. Pilcaithly. Apologies were received from the Rev. Dr. Erwin, E. Eliot Chambers, P. Hewland, J. E. Parsons, and N. Turner. Congratulatory telegrams were read from the Rev. J. J. Bales (late pastor of St. John's), and from the Rev. ('.. K, Aitken (Moderator of the Ashburton Presbytery). Addresses of welcome were delivered by the Revs. F. Rule, John Paterson, and J. C. Paterson, on behalf of the Christchurch Presbytery; Captain Hatchwell, on behalf.of the congregation; and Mr J. Pitcaithlv, on behalf of the Methodist Church. The Rev. John Paterson then vacated the chair in favour of the Rev. W. T. Todd.

A travelling rug was presented to the Rev. John Paterson, as a loken of appreciation by the congregation of his services during the vacancy of (he charge. Musical items were rendered bv Misses M. Hutchinson, (). Thorpe, M. Clark, and Messrs H. Clow, J. Young, and the Rev. John Paterson gave a recitation. Miss Ilalchwell acted as accompanist.
