LOCAL AND GENERAL.

An Irish National Concert under the 'auspices of the H.A.C.B. Society will be held in the Theatre Royal on St. Patrir-k 's night, March 17. An excellent programme has been, arranged,; in; eluding most of the best-known Irish songs. The concert will be under the patronage of His Lordship Bishop Brodie. Travellers along the north road, through Belfast find something to interest them in the ploughing operations which are now proceeding on Mr W. Nicholls's farm. Mr Nicholls decided some time ago to put wheat in suitable land on his property, and to that end he required the services of a ploughman. Two girls, aged about seventeen, volunteered for the work, and Mr Nicholls decided to start one of them. The young lady is now driving a four-horse team, which is pulling a double-furrow plough. Tie quality of the work so far is good, and Mr Nicholls invites interested parties to make an inspection. He has no doubt that the experiment he has initiated will be tried in other districts. Th neeuliar appearance of the livers in rabbits shot in the neighbourhood of Christehur.- 1 ' having aroused suspicion, one of these was taken to the District Health Ollicer, who obtained a bacteriological report from Dr Pearson on the condition. From this it appears that the rabbits are suffering from what is known as eoeridiosis. This parasitical disease is entirely confined to the liver and intestines, and does i: ' fffect the rabbit otherwise as an article of food. The District -Health Ollicer, therefore, advises the public to discard the liver and all internal organs of the rabbit when preparing these animals for the table. Dr Chesson remarked to the Sux reporter that the fact of this disease being found in the liver would not put him off caring rabbits. He thinks it is only necessary to discard the organs mentioned.
