GERMANY HOPED TO CRUSH AUSTRALIA.
PLANS FOR INVASION PREPARED AHEAD. ENEMY AGENTS BEEN AT WORK FOE YEARS. (Received March 13, 9.20 a.m.) MELBOURNE, March 12. Speaking at Castlemaine, Senator Pearee (Minister of Defence) said that for many years before the "war German agents were sending to Germany the fullest information regarding Australia, to enable them, when t!ie time came, to find the weak spot, and how best to land, feed, and march troops to vital points of the Commonwealth. The Defence Department had evidence that Germany intended to bring here armies which would crush us out of existence.
