SOUTHBRIDGE TOWN BOARD.

The Southbridgc Town Board met on Thursday evening, ihere being present: Mr Piper (chairman), Dr "Withers, and Messrs Chapman, Sutton, Hubbard, and Appleton. In the matter of the statutory halfholiday, it was agreed that as the alteration had been gazetted, the change should come into force from next week. The Works Committee reported that the cleaning of water-races so far was satisfactory. Some carting was required and footbridges needed attention. Messrs J. Hannah and R. Twiss waited upon the board with a request that it should take over control of the instruments and uniforms of the District Band for safe custody. It was decided to accede to the request, and the deputation was asked to send in a list of all the material, to be kept at the board's office. It was decided to ask the clerk of the Ellesmere County Council to call a meeting of the Joint Electrical Committee.

The payment of the Hospital and Charitable Aid levy for 1915-16 was agreed to. -^ It was further decided to instruct the overseer to hand in the names of persons who were allowing their cattle to stray on the roads, with a view to taking legal proceedings. The statutory half-holiday under the Shops and Offices Act will be observed in the Ellesmere county on Saturday in future.
