THE MOTOR CARNIVAL.

B.S.A. SUCCESSES. A feature of Saturday's motor carnival was the wonderfully consistent running of the several B.S.A. machines entered in the various events. These are entirely British-made machines, built throughout with British completeness and attention to detail. The way in which they acquitted themselves was the admiration of the thousands of spectators. There were two of them in the South Island Middle-weight Championship (10 miles), ridden by A. E. Woodman and E. F. C. Ilindes, and they secured first and third places respectively, Woodman's time from scratch being 9min 54sec. In the second heat of the Light-weight Handicap (fight miles) Woodman secured first place from scratch in 7min 52sec, a really excellent performance. In the second heat of the Open Handicap (8 miles) Woodman again obtained first place. In this event he gave as much as 15 and 35 seconds start to some of the higher-powered machines, and yet won easily in 7min 48 2-ssec, beating the second man, who had 1-lflsec start, by nearly two minutes. The B.S.A.'s seexied to respond with wonderful alacrity to any cail for an extra spurt, while their riders were at the utmost ease. But apart from their speed and reliability, the sweetness of their running was frequently commented upon. Misfiring on their part was practically non-existent. Another convincing statement that can be made in their favour is the fact that from the time these machines left the workshops for the course, till when they were returned, the only attention required had been the tightening of a belt. This demonstrates their absolute reliability, for it must be admitted that the terrific speed at which they were travelling during the day put an enormous strain upon every working part. In addition to speed and reliability, they are pleasing in appearance and are handled with the greatest of ease whether on racing track, road, or hills. The sole agents in New Zealand for these machines are Messrs Adams, Ltd., High Street, Christchurch, who can give immediate delivery of the very latest models. The new 3-speed military model, 41-h.p., is equipped with either combined belt and chain, or complete chain drive, and is eminently suited as a side-car machine. At the carnival they were using Price's oil, for which Messrs Adams, Ltd., are also the sole New Zealand agents. —i)
