The Duke of Norfolk, president of the Belgian Relief Fund, gave a luncheon to the Right Hon. "W. F. Massey, and expressed his warm appreciation of New Zealand's great generosity to the fund. Mr Massey, in replying, said that New Zealand's contributions were evidence of her gratitude for the stand the gallant Belgians made against German aggression in the early slagcs of the war. AUSTRALIA'S ATTITUDE. CONTRIBUTIONS SUSPENDED. By Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright. SYDNEY, December 22. The National Belgian Relief Fund Committee has decided, owing to the Germans commandeering and requisitioning the food supplies in Belgium, not to ask for further contributions to the fund or to send forward any further subscriptions pending developments. The committee has £44,000 in hand.
BELGIUM'S THANKS. Press Association. WELLINGTON, December 22. The High Commissioner has forwarded to the Government the following message from the Queen of the Belgians:— "The Queen is much touched with the evidence of sympathy of the people of New Zealand, and delighted with the generosity they have shown towards our unhappy country. Will you kindly, in response to her Majesty's wishes, convey an expression of her gratitude to the kind donors, and inform them that our Sovereign is happy to be an intermediary between themselves and the victims of the war."
