BOWLING.

DOMINION TOURNAMENT. FINAL ARRANGEMENTS MADE. Matters of tl--tnII in connection with the ' Dominion bowling tournament, which is I to commence at Wellington on January 8, were discussed ;it a meeting of the Tournament Committee in Wellington. It was reported that full arrangements ; had been made for the lighting of the Wei- : lington green for the electric light tournament, which is to be held on the nights of j Tuesday and Wednesday, January '.I and lit. The committee recommended that four members of any affiliated clubs might en-, ter, that entries be limited to .'!2. and that two short games be played each night on the "sudden-death"' principle. Arrangements had been made for the Trentham Hand to play nightly, and ladies are being asked to organise "side-shows," the proceeds of which, like those of the other proceeds of the tournament, will go to patriotic purposes. Mr liush also announced that j the amount of 112 12 - and 18 K - for first ; and second prizes had been subscribed pri- j vately. The report was adopted. As to the tournament, some discussion took place regarding the number of rinks: to be placed in the various sections of, rinks, pairs, and singles—a question that ' arose on account of the very large number I of entries, which the chairman referred to as a tribute to the popularity of Wellington as a Dominion bowling tournament I rendezvous. The secretary (Mr J. .1. Roberts) brought ! up a report on the subject. He recom- i j mended that the rinks be divided into j eight sections of fourteen and two of ! ! twelve; that the pairs be composed of! j thirteen sections of sixteen, in four divi- ' sions; and that in the singles there be . . twelve sections of sixteen and one of , I eighteen. The secretary's recommendations | were adopted. I It was decided that rink play take place i l on the Wellington, Newtown, Victoria, HaItaitai, Pctone, Hutt, Lyall Bay. Karori, and' I Kelburn greens; pairs and singles on the Wellington, Newtown, Victoria, Hataitai. ' Petone, Hutt, Lyall Bay. Karori, Thorndon, • | Jolmsonville, Khandallah, and Tc Hiwi ' greens. J NOTES FROM THE GREENS. OPAWA GREEN. An interesting game in the Champion ' Doubles was played at Opawa Green on ' j Thursday evening. The particular interest was derived from the fact that it was not J finished until some time after nine o'clock, | | and was played partially in the dark. The ! players were Jones and Woodham, and i j Mason and West.. West intended to leave I for Wellington next evening, and it was ■ decided to finish the game by the aid of Mr John Clarke's electric torch. The result i of the game was:—Jones and Woodham 17, j , Mason and West 15. As evidence of the | I effectiveness of Mr Clarke's illuminaut it ! may be mentioned that West, who dis- j | claims any pretensions to being a brilliant I driver, burnt a couple of heads. Mr Clarke . says that the best shots were delivered be- • I tween 8.-I0 and 9 p.m. i Not much progress has been made at the I Opawa Green during the past week, pro- : bably owing to the exigencies of Christ- | ! mas business, and as quite a number of ; ' players are going away for the holidays i I there will probably be little advance during j j the coming fortnight. In the handicap singles. Section B, Watson i beat M'Lachlan and Bobbins. Penberthy beat Watson, and M'Lachlan beat Mason. ; Archbolil. and Crawford. Section D, Dit- \ ford beat Steans, Connolly and Gwatkin; I Wilson beat Bruce; Bell beat Wilson, East- : , wood, Ormondy, and Pearce; Gwatkin beat Steans and Pearce; I'earce beat Ditfort. H. Thompson, and B. Best (15). LINWOOD GREEN. Progressive Doubles will be played at Lin wood Green on Boxing Day and on New Year's Day. The position of the leading players in the various competitions is as j follows: President's Doubles.—Section A: W. R. Sprosen and Papps, I! wins 2 losses; P. V. I Brown and Kershaw, 3 wins 1 loss. As Brown and Kershaw have beaten Sprosen and Papps they look like winning the section. In Section B there are two pairs with two wins and one loss each, viz.. Penlington and Burgess, and Kingsland and Weir. Two other sets of partners have played no games. The leaders in Section C \ are Ritchie and Killner, with three wins and one loss. The wily other pair in the section who have played four games are' Ardley and Price, who have two wins and I two losses, included in the latter being the game with Ritchie and Killner. The best results in Section D have been secured by I Justin and Haworth. each of whom has' won four games. Williams and Snell have three wins and two losses, while Woods and Cooper have three wins and one loss. I Justin and Haworth should win the sec-1 tion. ' In the Championship Singles, section A,! j H. Burson has four wins out of six games, and his chance of winning the section looks j ! good. Better results still have been secured | by E. Healey in section B. who has played | and won live games. E. C. Brown has) j played six games, of which he has won ! three and lost three, including that with : ! Healey. It looks fairly safe to pick Healey | jas the winner of the section. At the head, of section C is C. Dickson, with six games played, five won and one lost, while H. ! Killner has played seven, won five and lost | two. Killner has played Dickson anil beaten ' him, but the former lost to Kllis. while ! Dickson beat him. Killner also lost to Wil- ! \ Hums, whom Dickson has not yet met. so j j that the chances between Dickson and Kill- : ! ner look fairly even. I In the Handicap Singles G. It. Dickson , i leads so far with seven games played, six won and one lost. The next best results have been secured by A. Dickson and Woods, each with six games played, four won. two lost, and two to play. G. B. Dick son has beaten both A. Dickson and Woods, ' and lias only one game to play, so that his | position in this competition is almost as- '■ sured. The Champion Rinks are not yet very far advanced, three out of the seven games having been played by one rink (T. Marriott's), which has won two and lost one. The other rinks have only played two, and in some i cases one game. The Champion Doubles are also very backward, only one game having been l played, that between Penlington and Ilea ley anil K. C. Brown and Benson, the former pair winning the game. In the President's Minks the leaders in Section A are skipped by Haworth and T. Marriott, each having secured three wins and one loss. Marriott's team has beaten Haworth's. In Section B, Kershaw's tram j has three wins out of three games played, while SncH's team h:is played its four games, winning three and losing one.
