In the singles the first round finished last week with the following results:—Francis beat Harold, 9-7; Browning beat Hudson, 9-'.i; Lockwood beat. Hutchison, 9-6; Sehniit: beat Barry, 9-7; Skellenip bent Bosomworth, 9-5; Bishop beat Ncutze, 9-7; Jarvis beat Campbell, 9-6; Mann beat Styeho by default. In the Combined Competition, first ■ round, Miss Spratt and Barry beat Miss | Marshall and Browning, ' 9-7: Mrs Bosomworth and Lockwood beat Miss Clark and Jarvis, 9-6; Miss Ashley and Schmit beat Mrs Lockwood and Francis, 9-5. In the second round Miss Spratt and Barry beat Mrs Bosomworth and Lockwood, 9-6'; Miss Browning and Bishop beat Miss Pattrick and Mann, 9-8; Miss Green and Bosomworth beat Miss Ashley and Schmit, 9-3. About four rounds are still to be played. There being no regatta at Lyttelton on New Year's Day, the New Brighton Motor Boat Club arc holding a lied Cross picnic at Pleasant Point. Badges will be sold, and the wearer of these badges will lie given a free trip to this popular picnic spot. The proceeds, are in aid of the Red Cross funds.
