CRICKET.

THE DISTRICT MATCHES.

THIRD SERIES FINISHED

There was splendid weather this afternoon for the second day's play in the thin! series of matches in the Canterbury Cricket Association's competitions. These matches were started on November 25, when rain interrupted the play to some extent. Last Saturday they were suspended because of the Bose Fete.

WEST CHRISTCHURCH v. BOYS HIGH SCHOOL.

When rain slopped play on the first afternoon of the game, Boys' High School had put on 107 for live wickets—flic fifth wicket bad fallen at 139—against West Christchurch, at Haglcy Bark. Buckhurst, with 23 to his credit, and Woods, with seven, were the unbeaten batsmen. After resuming this afternoon, the pair carried the score to 192, when Buckhurst played a ball on to bis wickets. Page, a diminutive but neat and very steady batsman, gave splendid support to Woods, and the pair defied all the resources of the West Christchurch bowling until they had put on 130, when Woods, who needed on,ly four to reach the century, was caught in the deep-field. The School innings reached 355, Page, who played a line innings, being left with 78 not out to his credit. Wesl Christchurch bad two hours in which to bat. It made a poor start, the first two wickets falling when only 27 runs had been scored. D. Beese made things lively for a time, but when six wickets had fallen the score was only. 115. A win had come well within sight for Bovs' High School, for West Christchurch was a man short. The seventh wicket fell at 117, and the next at 118, and the last without any addition to ,the score, leaving a big win to School. Scores:— HOYS' HIGH SCHOOL. First Failings. D. W.
