CRIME PREVENTION. By. Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright. SYDNEY, Decemher S. As an outcome of the recent I.W.W. trials the Assemhly read a first time the Crimes Prevention Bill, which provides heavy penalties for inciting to crime.
THE /TOTALISATOR BILL
SYDNEY, December 8.
Under the Totalisalor Bill the Government takes seven-tenths and the clubs three-tenths of the 10 per cent, to be deducted.
A deputation from the Anglican Synod visited the Minister of Education and protested againsl the legalisation of the totalisator. The deputation quoted the enormous increase of belting in New Zealand and other Stales since the introduction of the totalisator. The arguments failed to convince the Minister. A NEW LEGISLATIVE COUNCILLOR SYDNEY, December 8. Mr Hunt, a member of the executive of the Farmers' and Settlers' Association, has been appointed to the Legislative Council.
