A RIVER MYSTERY.
WOMAN RESCUED FROM AVON. A woman was rescued from the Avon last evening about 7 o'clock. A passer-by saw her struggling in the wafer at the Armagh Street Bridge, and promptly drew her on to the bank, where first aid was applied by another arrival, who happened to be proficient in the art; The woman for a time was unconscious, but she was eventually restored sufficiently to be placed in a taxi and hurried to the Chrislchurch Hospital. She still, however, was in a semi-comatose condition.
She appeared respectably dressed, j and was apparently about 80 years of jage. Nothing could be ascertained j last evening as lo her identity, or to I the reason which led to her being found in the river. This information, it is understood, she definitely refused to give, while there was nothing in her possession which would i give the necessary clue lo her identity. I This morning her condition had i improved considerably, and she tendered the information to the hospital I authorities that her name was Annie I Johnston, and that she resided with i a Miss Cook, Derby Street, St. Albans, j She also staled that she was a single ! woman.
