MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
TO-DAY'S CASES.
Mr 11. W. Bishop, S.M., presided at a sitting of the court this morning. A FOOLISH PROSECUTION. James Herbert Can- appeared, on re-1 mand from Wellington, to answer a I charge of having stolen, on November! 11, at Arlington, a bicycle, valued at I £(i, the property of Mrs E. Crothers. The defendant, who appeared in uniform, pleaded not guilty. Mrs Crothers said that the bicycle was lent to the defendant on Show Day. It had not been seen since. She did ; not think Carr had slolen it. In discharging the accused, who said | that he had returned + 1 e machine the same day that he borrowed it, the Magistrate said the prosecution should never have been laid. ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. "William Semple, age.l 72, charged with having attempted to commit suicide, was convicted and discharged,a j married daughter promisin ; to take care i of him.
