OBITUARY.
A FAMOUS MUSICIAN. By Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cablt Association. (Received December 8, 11.55 a.m.) LONDON, December 7. The death is announced of Dr Mans Richtcr, the famous conductor. (Dr Hans Richtcr, M.V.0., was horn at Bauh, Hungary, in 1843, and received his musical education at Vienna. He assumed direction of the Court Opera Theatre, Vienna, in 187f>, and in 1870 directed the great Hnyreuth Festival, which is one of the outstanding events of the musical year. He commenced orchestral concerts in London in 1879, and in 1880 was created Doctor of Music l)v the University of Oxford. From 1900 to 1911 lie was conductor to the Halle Concerts Society.!
